Grandma’s Warning

In this series Grandma’s Warning, you will find a recurring pear motif. As a homonym, the word pear in Chinese means both the fruit, and the idea of separation and divorce. The pear is imbued in Farey’s work as a reflection of her own identity and her relationship with the different cultures she is a part of. When initially sharing her work with her Chinese grandmother, Farey was cautioned not to depict halved pears because of its negative connotations, hence the title of this series.
